Benefits of Raquetball
Racquetball gives an intense workout that will keep you on your toes in a fast-paced game. You can play all year long in our fantastic facility. Once you are inside the court, racquetball requires very little equipment. All you need are shoes, goggles, a ball, and racquet. Racquetball is less rigid than tennis and it offers numerous physical and mental benefits.
Did you know that a one hour game of racquetball can burn more calories than many other activities such as basketball and tennis? Depending on your intensity level and weight, you can burn on the low end of 500 calories to the high end of over 700 calories.
Strengthen Bones and Muscles
Since racquetball is a weight-bearing exercise, it can help make your bones stronger and slow down any bone loss. You can develop and maintain muscle tone throughout your body as you use all your major muscle groups playing a racquetball game. Being in constant motion, you will get the benefit of working your most important muscle - your heart. Playing one hour of racquetball is the equivalent of running 2 miles. Your heart rate increases and maintains at 70 to 80 percent of its maximum, says the California State Racquetball Association.
Improve Balance and Health Risks
In order to run across the court and dip low to hit that returning ball, you need to have balance and flexibility. You might stumble and miss that shot in your first game, but through practice, your hand-eye-coordination and balance will improve. When playing racquetball, you will use a wide range of motion that forces your body to stretch and will increase your flexibility. Remember to always stretch before you play.
Reduce Stress and Health Risks
Physical activity can reduce stress by increasing your endorphins, but racquetball can especially erase your worries. When you get caught up in an intense game, you let go of your stress, problems, and to-do lists, and just focus on you. Letting go of tension can lead to improved daily energy and can make you more optimistic, says the Mayo Clinic. It is proven that regular physical activity can help reduce future health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. Exercise, such as racquetball, can also help reduce your risk for coronary heart disease by reducing your triglyceride levels and increasing your “good” cholesterol.
